Siteclubbing: early 2022’s best underground electronic music
The best new IRL and URL club music from January, February and March, with guests Tash LC, DJ Python and DJ Lyster
Words by Oskar Jeff
Siteclubbing returns with a bumper edition, rounding up the best electronic and club tracks from 2022 so far. Spanning January to March, we’ve got triple threat of the most exciting names in electronic music lending a hand. Firstly, Club Yeke mastermind and DJ Tash LC picks three of her top tracks from January. Next, DJ, producer and Worldwide Unlimited label head DJ Python guides us through February, and finally, DJ Lyster, the man behind the influential Manchester label YOUTH, rounds up March. Plus, we’ve included a few of our favourites at the end too.
Spanning from ambient, afrohouse, wonky UK techno, woozy reggaeton and beyond, it’s a varied bag from three individuals with their respective fingers on the pulse. Enjoy!
If you like what you hear, please consider supporting the artists by paying for their music – here’s our Buy Music Club list to help you do so.
“I love everything that Seres Producoes puts out. They’re a label which started out in Angola with a focus on afrohouse from the Afro-Portuguese diaspora, proper soulful house for the dancers.”
“I’m such a huge fan of these two. Their approach to techno is percussive and fun and really stands out from anything I’ve heard in a while. All their tunes are bouncy and bridge a set together so well.”
“WILD collab! I love both these producers in their own right and got immediately excited when I saw this. Endgame’s warped production alongside Narciso’s rebita riddims work so, so well. Will be rinsing this all year.”
“Very interesting record and producer from one of my favourite labels, Editions Gravats. An always on point label run by Jean Carval and Philippe Hallais (aka Low Jack).”
A fixture of the London DJ circuit and beyond, re:ni has put her hand to production with this debut release for the influential Illian Tape label. A brooding turn with hostile rhythms and serrated vocal samples that work as a continuation of her selections as a DJ.
US rapper Leikeli47 returns has returned with a string of singles, the latest of which mesmerises with its effortless mix of ice-cold flows and stripped-back early-’00s beat. February’s ‘BITB’ is just as exciting, taking a more seductively house-centric approach. The continued influence of varied club sounds across her productions bodes well for the upcoming album, plus hopefully we’ll get some more bootlegs à la Garneau’s ‘Girl Blunt’ edit.
