It keeps getting bigger
Helsinki’s Flow festival is only a month away, and the reason we’re so excited about it is because we’re going to be there, reporting for the first time from the defunct Suvilahti power plant that hosts the Finish festival. Rumour is we’re going to record an episode of our Midnight Chats podcast there too (because we’re starting and confirming that rumour now).
With the clock ticking, they’re still managing to squeeze more names onto a bill that already includes Blur, Caroline Polachek, Devo, Suede, Christine and The Queens, Jockstrap, Shygirl, Lorde, Wizkid and Kelela. Today Kaytranada has joined the bill, and Finland’s own Alma (Flow is very good at repping its local artist).
In even more exploratory corners of the site are the Balloon 360 stage and the Backyard stage, with their lineups being announced today also. The Backyard has a mix of funk, techno and soul from: Nooriyah, John Gómez, Kampire, Renata Do Valle, Awesome Tapes, HabibiFunk, Zakia, Gop Tun, Lil’ Tony, OceanPeople, Marc Fred, Maria Wesander, and Dj Mojo.
As you’ve probably guessed from the name, the Balloon 360 stage is a circular, immersive space where we’re most excited to see London ambient jazz musicians Nala Sinephro, and discover the rest of the lineup: DOMi & DK Beck, Esa’s Afro-Synth Band, Kamazu, Jake Xerxes Fussell, Olli Ahvenlahti, Tumomo & Markus, Verneri Pohjola, Ne Galakktiset, Kaisa’s Machine, Elsi Sloan, Sonia, and Valtteri Laurell Nonet.
It’s probably worth getting a ticket. Full info at flowfestival.com.
