When we sent Dom Haley to Brighton in mid-2018 to interview DITZ it was pretty much on the evidence of one single – ‘Seeking Arrangement’. That was good enough to make us want to find out more. What he found wasn’t your typical group of hardcore kids, instead, “a curious hodgepodge of different tastes and characters”. An intriguing lot, known for consistently playing incendiary live shows. The five-piece spent the second half doing exactly that, sharing stages with the likes of IDLES and Heavy Lungs. There was no more new music – until now.
They’ve just shared a new track, ‘Gayboy’. Again, it’s big riffs, chopped through with singer Cal Francis’ acerbic delivery, carrying a message that’s two flicked fingers at bullies and their ignorant insults. “The song is about the irony of the anger of bigotry,” says Francis. “Nothing makes me angrier than bigots but bigots only exist because they’re angry.” Wrap your ears around it below. It’s out now via Permanent Creeps Records.
DITZ play London Bermondsey Social Club on 21 March, and Brighton Washed Out festival on 12 April.
