Vivian Girls
words by Mandy Drake
One of Vivian Girls is called Kickball Katy. She plays bass even more nonchalantly than your average Valium-scoffing four-stringer. The rest of her band are Frankie Rose (drums) and Cassie Ramone (guitars). Their names may be slightly less so but they're dead cool bits of skirt too. They're from Brooklyn. And that's as much as I can say about the garage trio, because this self-titled debut is a fair old shrug considering the amount of heat on Vivian Girls. Usually impeccable in their tastes, US indie In The Red Records unleashes these ten simple tracks, but with the exception of the surfing 'Where Do You Run To' - complete with dreamy multi-vocals - Vivian Girls prove that while they can hold a tune, the melodies they do are wholly forgettable and void of dynamic.
